The Different Notes
Here are the notes on a keyboard. The white keys go in the order - CDEFGABC. The black keys in-between are half steps above or below the white keys. In order for a note to be sharpened, one has to move up a half step (D - D#). In order to flatten a note, you go down a half step (D-Dflat). Therefore, all the black keys have two names as shown above. I would recommend starting by teaching the white keys to the students, and then adding the black keys afterwards.
